Little Lord Fauntleroy, by Frances Hodgson Burnett

This story is about an American boy named Cedric, who finds that he is the sole heir to a British earldom. He leaves New York to take up residence in his ancestral castle, where he is joined by his middle-class mother whom he calls “Dearest”. His grandfather intends to teach the boy to become an aristocrat, but ends up teaching him human values in the process instead.
